On March 20, 2004, members of The Southeast Texas Hike & Bike Coalition and the Southeast Texas Triathlon Club rode from Beaumont to Kountze for the opening of the Big Thicket Visitors Center on Hwy. 69. Click for some pictures, more to come soon!

Here's a dozen pics of the abandoned BNSF (Burlington-Northern Santa Fe) rails. These Pictures Start on Hwy. 124 a Mile or 2 South of the GoodYear Plant, & Going South

  3. Old Site Marker identifies the rail company, Santa Fe
  4. There are more that one set of rails in some places
  5. A little further south... There are more that 2 sets of rails in some places!
  6. This Narrow Service Road Is Rideable Already. It Goes Almost to Hwy 365
  7. Rail Cars Once Parked Over This Pit. The Rails Are Cut Now. There Is A Nice Store Barely Visible At Left
  8. This thing actually derails any runaway train cars before they get into populated or high-traffic areas
  9. Starting to see some Residential Property. The service road abruptly ends here.
  10. Intersection of Hwy. 365 & Hwy. 124
  11. A mile or two South of Hwy. 365 the Rails and Ties are completely gone. (Looking North)
